No longer in Spain

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

My Spanish adventure is finished. For academic reasons I had to leave BitRock.

I am already missing that great team with which I learned so much and spent such great moments.

Good luck for everyone in there, you deserve the best!

BitNami DjangoStack released

DjangoStack being installed

So, after a few work, BitNami has just released the DjangoStack.
For a brief introdction of BitNami Stacks in case you don’t know them.

Stacks are packages that make it easy to install and deploy open source applications. They join the main application and all its dependencies in a cross-platform installer. This way you can install Django, SQLite, MySQL, Apache and all of their dependencies, and choose whether to create a new project at installation time, use MySQL or SQLite… etc. with just a few clicks and answers!!
Now ain’t this cool!?

This first release is available for Linux and Mac OS X users.

Also check out the other great apps available from BitNami.

New InstallBuilder and JRuby BitNami stack

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

The new InstallBuilder - version 5.4.2 - was just released last Friday. It’s the first release of IB since I’ve been working for BitRock and only now I understand how powerful this piece of software is.

Also, JRuby stack was also released. Now you can be ready to develop using Ruby on top of JAVA in a few clicks.

New BluePad website and FOSDEM 2008

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

So, after all the beautiful girls asking me and Valério when would we release a new version of BluePad and resurrect its website, we decided: Oh well, they’re so cute, let’s do it!
And voila! There’s a new version of BluePad’s website, plus, the new SVN version works on Nokia s60!!! That’s right, now you can use it with all those fancies phones.

Valério is also giving a lightning talk on FOSDEM about BluePad, how cool’s that. I hope next year we’re keynotes :)

I am also going to FOSDEM (thanks to my company BitRock, by the way) so feel free to come chat a little if you want and say bad things about my website. I’ll give you a hunch on how I look like: I am the one in glasses…

Tapas and Linux

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

So, what’s up? My second day at work on BitRock.

BitRock is located in Sevilla, the city of the sun and heat… but not today! Today was dark and raining.
Last Sunday my parents came to visit Seville for the first time and it was  raining… they work hard everytime and once they found time to come visit the city… it looked like Britain.

Anyways, I had lunch at a Tapas cafe for the second day. It’s cheap and good but the main difference I find between these cafes and the ones in Portugal is that here they pretty much eat on their feet! They don’t seat down or seat at the bar. Also, it is usually so noisy inside that it ain’t no peace break :D But I like it and it’s amazing that they don’t write down what you’ve ask for, they just know how many stuff you ate and when you ask for the check… you get it before you can reach your wallet! I think they should try a degree on Physics or something like that cause I bet they’d remember on the formulas right away… but then we’d be without such a nice place for eating and shouting.
